Mount Desert, Me.
written in black ink
Mrs. Richardson
Mother
received your letter and
I enclose the old deed
you ask about. John meant
to have reserved the strip you
you speak of but it was
over looked some way when the
deed was written. but
when father deeded it he
reserved it, to be added
to the enclosed ground.
and I think but am not
sure that he reserved a
next page
right of way to road
(but am not sure of the
right of way part of it)
I think you would have
a right of way in any case
whether it was mentioned
in the deed or not.
Tell Lucinda not to
lose one wink of sleep
over it. I think every
thing is all right.
Respectfully yours
L. Elrie Holmes

Please give May the deed when
you get through with it
second note, on same sheet, but in blue ink
When Mr. Holmes
sent me the original
deed of his ?Pero.? he wrote
on the margin "Keep this
deed until I call for it."
He was on the island but
once only after that but
did not call for his deed.
I told Richard and Will
about it a year ago last
spring and they both said
"you will always keep it."
You see Elerie says of this
one for me to take it to
his Sister May after I get
done with it. I guess he
thinks I am in a fair way
to obtain all the deeds his
next page
father ever possessed. and
in case it should be proven
I was not sane at the time
I might assert that I had
a right to keep them all
until his father called
for them. and he had no
idea of allowing me the
chance to retain this
one in my possession
longer than was necessary
and as he did not give
me any permission to
send it around at all
I hope you will, as soon as
you get through with it
return it to me by some one
whom you feel sure will deliver
it safely. so I can get it out to May.
Dad
