Sir: I have rec'd your report dated 30th ultimo, in favor of the
application of W.P. Preble and W.H. Preble for an American Register
for the British Schooner "C. Hood" which was wrecked
on Bakers Island in the Township of Cranberry Isles,
State of Maine, and sold by D.B. Parker and others for
$1425 and repaired at a cost of $3912.31 which
is not equal to three times the purchase money. The
papers are returned and the application is rejected.
You will please in all such cases send the foreign
Register and state on what authority and by whose
agency the sale was effected & especially whether
the vessel was built in the U.S. & sold to foreigners, and
if so, when & under what circumstances, so far as there
may be in your possession, any information on the
subject.
