The Braided Rugs Inn is located in the village of Islesford on Little Cranberry Island, Maine.

This island farmhouse, reflecting the charms of yesterday with the comforts of today, was built in 1892 and is the year round home of your hostess.  The three comfortable, traditionally furnished guest rooms are on the second floor and share one bathroom.  Handmade braided rugs adorn the floors.  Extraordinary photos, depicting island life at an earlier time and taken by the owner's grandfather between 1898 and 1912 hang on the walls.  Stained glass accents the windows.

Breakfast is included.  With advanced notice lunch and dinner can be prepared for an additional charge featuring fresh locally caught seafood.  Our kitchen is available for our guests to prepare snacks and light meals.  There is a conveniently located general store which serves lunches.  A grill and picnic table are on the lawn.  During the summer, there is fine dining at a nearby restaurant located on a dock with a full view of the working harbor and an ideal setting for a glorious sunset behind the mountains of Mount Desert Island.

Guests meet in the sunny kitchen for a delicious, full, family style breakfast.  This might include freshly baked homemade breads and muffins, locally made granola, fresh eggs from an island farm, and fresh fruit and garden fresh berries and vegetables when available.  With advance notice, special dietary needs can be accommodated.

Awaken to the singing of birds and the crisp sea air.  Guests can enjoy TV, good conversation, puzzles and books in the bright sunny sitting room or relax in wicker furniture on the wrap around porch.  Take in the island atmosphere of this scenic, unspoiled fishing village accessible by passenger ferry from Mount Desert Island.  It's a short walk to harbor, restaurant, museum, art gallery, pottery shop, gift shop, general store and library.  Ride bicycles along town roads, rent kayaks by the day.  Watch lobster boats, explore the shoreline between tides, spot eagles or osprey soaring or glimpse seals basking on rock ledges.  This is an ideal place to relax and unwind in an informal, friendly atmosphere.

Children are welcome and can enjoy the Islesford School playground just across the road, swimming at sand beach or exploring tide pools.

The feline concierge welcomes all guests.  Please inquire about bringing pets.  The Braided Rugs Inn maintains a no smoking policy.

Reservations are required and can be secured by credit card.  The Braided Rugs Inn accepts payment by check, cash, traveler's check, Mastercard, Visa, and Discover.

Cranberry Isles

The State of Maine is noted
For its firm and rock-bound coast,
For its scenes that have no equal,
Of its islands, I would boast.

There are many famed for beauty
Nestling near the rocky shore,
But a group of which I'm thinking
Calls for praises, evermore.

Shadowed by the rounded Cadillac,
Viewed in beauty o'er the miles,
On the waters of Atlantic
Rest superb, the Cranberry Isles.

Rest and peace, sweet joy, contentment,
Courage, strength, and health supreme,
All are fostered on these islands,
All the thoughts of poet's dream.

Come then, welcome to our islands,
Share with us the magic charm,
Leave behind the cities' noises,
Rest and share our peace and calm.
